Orthodontic 3D Printing

Orthodontic 3D Printing: What is It and How Does It Work?

3D printing turns a digital plan into a physical object. In orthodontics, the 3D models built from your scans can be used to help make and check appliances such as retainers and aligner-related parts, so treatment is based on your own precise anatomy rather than a generic mould.

What is Orthodontic 3D Printing?

Using the digital records from your 3D oral scan, accurate physical models of your teeth can be produced by 3D printing. Our 3D treatment planning is carried out in-house by our consultants, and the physical models and appliances are 3D-printed externally to our specification.

Orthodontic 3D Printing Advantages

  • Appliances based on an accurate 3D model of your own teeth

  • A digital workflow, from scan to plan to model, led by our consultants

  • Consistent, repeatable records, so a retainer can be reproduced accurately if it needs replacing

What Is Orthodontic 3D Printing Used For?

  • Producing models used to make retainers and aligner-related appliances

  • Checking the fit of appliances before they are worn

  • Supporting a fully digital, consultant-led planning workflow
